Bewitched, Bothered, & Bewildered A Guide to Spring 2004 Fashion Choices
The spring fashions just keep pouring in from sublime to the ridiculous. Because we’re still early in the season, I feel compelled to give you another installment of "Bewitched, Bothered & Bewildered" and with a new addition…"Be Gone!" Enjoy.
Bewitched:
Scarves For all you scarf lovers, rumor has it that they are making a comeback (not that they were ever completely out). I’m so glad. A scarf can add a touch of beauty, elegance, sassiness, or drama to an outfit. It can pull two unlikely pieces together to create a whole and bring focus to your face. Not to mention that it can be a conversation piece. Remember, however, you must love it and enjoy wearing it, because it’s a visual expression of who you are.
Green Eyeshadow I’ve always loved green eyeshadow. I’m not talking bright, blinding, garish green. I’m referring to soft, muted, eye-popping green. Many of you are now proud wearers of one of my most favorite colors lagoon sheer eyeshadow, so you know what I’m talking about. And, one of the nicest things about tasteful green eyeshadow… it works on nearly everyone. I encourage you to join the ranks of the trendy by adding green eyeshadow to your makeup collection and feel confident that you look great!
Bothered:
Yellow I love it on my walls it brightens and cheers up a room. Sadly, it doesn’t always do the same on one’s body! One of the fashion magazines recently wrote an article about how everyone can wear yellow, it’s just a matter of shade. Well, maybe, maybe not…mostly, not! Yellow is not an easy color to wear well. Whether it’s soft butter yellow or wild sunny yellow, a little bit goes a long way. And don’t even get me started on mustard yellow! Here’s the biggest question for you. Sure, you can make the best of yellow but why work so hard to make something "work" when other colors may be so much more flattering? Why settle just because something is "in."
Bewildered:
Weird Skirts Are we done yet with the fringy, asymmetrical, bizarre skirt hem? I remember watching some of the awards shows this winter thinking…oh, what a nice dress… until they opened up the shot, and I realized the hem of the dress was ragged and messy looking. It drew all the attention down and generally to the least flattering part (mid-calf) of the wearer’s legs. So, my suggestion forego the T-shirt skirt (as described above) and definitely beware when considering the "picnic" skirt. It’s flouncy and full generally, a prescription for disaster on anyone with hips!
Be Gone:
Micro minis Aren’t we over these yet? I don’t care how old or young (unless you’re in elementary school) you are, if you can’t bend over or sit without exposing parts of your body never meant for public exposure, then they shouldn’t be worn. And they hit at the upper thigh which even on many teenagers is not the most flattering part of the body. And, my aversion to these skirts has nothing to do with me getting old. I didn’t like them when that’s all we had to wear back in the ‘70s. Even when my fashion sense was not fully developed, I knew intuitively that these just don’t work! Minis are fine. Micro minis be gone with them!
