Injectables
When the lines on their face get out of control, many people turn first to injectables. They tend to be quick fixes with little, if any recovery time needed. Let's look at three different options: Restylane, Botox and Fat.
- Restylane:
This is one of the newest "fillers" available. It's made of hyaluronic acid a substance that exists naturally in your skin. Because of this, it is rare for someone to react negatively to it.
The most common place to have it injected is the nasal labial folds (the lines from the nose to the corners of the mouth). It plumps them up so they are less noticeable. Although the amount of time it lasts in the body varies (your body will eventually absorb it), the average is about 6 months. The cost is $450 to $550.
- Botox:
There's probably not much I can say about Botox that you don't already know! It is the number one cosmetic procedure selected today and is gaining in popularity. It works by paralyzing muscles so frown lines, wrinkles on your forehead and around your eyes are relaxed.
The results last 4-6 months and the cost is $200-$300 per treatment.
- Fat:
Yes, you read that right. This procedure is more invasive than either Restylane or Botox because it requires a doctor to extract fat from somewhere on your body (usually your inner thighs or buttocks) and transplant it to your face.
It's much more expensive ($1000-$1200) than Restylane or Collagen fillers but is attractive to clients because it comes from your own body and has much longer lasting results (12-24 months and often beyond).
I can't help but remind you that the results from any of these procedures can be enhanced by a good, healthy skin care routine. And, for those of you young enough to have few signs of aging evident on your faces, a good skin care routine can either delay the need for these procedures or render them totally unnecessary. Just food for thought…
