What Can a Fashion Stylist Do For You?

It’s very simple. Fashion stylists work with you to create a wardrobe that helps you feel great about how you look. How can working with a personal shopper or any of our other services positively impact your life? And, why Total Image Consultants?

“Ginger’s fee was less than the cost of buying the one ‘bad’ suit that I would probably have chosen without her help.”

— Deb Busser

“My mom had a wonderful time shopping with you. She was bubbling over as she showed all her clothes to my father. He could not believe how beautiful everything was. He said ‘Ginger must be a very talented person!’ From my father, high praise! Thank you for giving my mother so much pleasure. You give people more than clothes when you shop with them. It is something intangible which results in a sense of confidence, optimism and a little bit of giddy joy! I loved seeing my mother so happy.”

— Ginny Beckett

“I was despondent the day I met Ginger. The previous day a high-powered image “expert” suggested that my on-the-edge haircut and glasses needed to go. Ginger assured me that my image reflected who I am and reminded me that I offer on-the-edge service (I’m a doctor who helps patients become active participants in their health care.) Ginger found terrific clothes that make me feel like me at my best. As I tell my own clients, health means being your authentic self at your best, living in each moment. Thanks to Ginger, I enjoy fashion health. Ginger, you can call yourself the image doctor!”

— Vicki Rackner MD,

“My new wardrobe made a huge difference at work. I’ve been promoted and able to increase my pay scale!”

— Jessica Slate von Goeler

Commonly Asked Questions Before Engaging a Fashion Stylist

Your image is a very personal reflection of you! Having been in business for over 25 years in the Boston area, I know how scary it can be to invite someone into your closet and ultimately the dressing room of a store. This is private space and also a place where major decisions are made about how you will present yourself in your personal and professional lives. Not to mention that you spend money on the choices you make and, of course, you want to feel comfortable that you’ve made choices that reflect who you are.

“I’ve considered hiring an image consultant for 2 years. Having finally done it, I am amazed at the impact on my self-image of just one shopping trip. I look forward to the next. You bring quality of perspective and persistence, balancing competency and passion for the work.”

— Ginna Zinke

So, what do you need to know before making a decision to have your own personal fashion stylist or personal shopper?

Is a fashion stylist and personal shopper for average people or just for the rich and famous?

This service is available to everyone no matter what your shopping budget or lifestyle needs. Everyone wants to feel and look their best and that’s what I help you do.

What are some of the reasons I might have for wanting to work with a fashion stylist or personal shopper?

There are many.

  • Perhaps you’re in a rut, always buying the same thing and never feeling like you’re truly expressing yourself the way you’d like to.
  • Perhaps you get overwhelmed when you walk into a store and see all the choices, a form of mental paralysis sets in and you leave with nothing except a heightened sense of frustration. We can help.
  • Perhaps you have a big event or new job coming up and you need to feel prepared.
  • Or, you just feel clueless in general about how to put yourself together and you need a little guidance.
  • Having someone with an objective and expert eye looking at your wardrobe with you can make all the difference and answer many questions.

These are just a few of the reasons for engaging a fashion stylist or personal shopper to make your life easier!

How can a fashion stylist/personal shopper simplify my wardrobe?

By helping you eliminate the things that don’t work for you and guide you in making new choices that suit your style, body shape, budget, lifestyle, and personality.

Where does a wardrobe consultation take place?

You have a choice: your closet or my studio, whichever suits your needs, preference and budget.

During a wardrobe consultation, do I have to get rid of a lot of things?

My role as a fashion stylist is to guide you in making decisions about your existing wardrobe. Ultimately, you make the final decision about what to get rid of, store away, give to a friend or relative, have altered, or keep.

How organized do I need to be in advance of a wardrobe consultation?

That’s completely up to you. Some clients lay things out that they are particularly interested in looking at and others just open their closet doors and we start at the very beginning! Of course, if the consultation happens at Total Image Consultants’ studio, then more preparation is necessary to determine what to bring with you.

Do I choose where we shop or does the personal shopper?

Personal shoppers do not impose their tastes on you — that’s critical to know. Choosing where to shop is a collaborative effort. I guide you based on your lifestyle, body shape, personal style and budget. We can shop at any store from H&M and Sears to Nordstrom and Newbury Street in Boston.

What if I don’t have a large budget for shopping?

That’s fine. I tailor your personal shopping experience to meet your needs and budget.

Does Total Image Consultants Fashion Stylists and Personal Shoppers work with plus size women?

I work with women of all sizes and shapes. About 1/3 of my clients are plus size and at least another 1/3 wear a size to 3 sizes different on top and bottom. I believe all women, regardless of size and shape, are beautiful. My goal as a fashion stylist and personal shopper is to help you feel and radiate that beauty!

What sets Total Image Consultants apart from other fashion stylists and personal shoppers?

Every fashion stylist and personal shopper brings her own personality and flair for style to the experience. At Total Image Consultants, I pride myself on guiding you in a way that empowers, educates, and delights you. I use my practical experience, training, eye for balance and color, and intuitive sense to help you feel fabulous about the way you look!

Does Total Image Consultants have offices outside of Boston?

My clients come from all over the world — from Boston and the New England area to Switzerland and New Zealand — either to work with me in person or to work virtually through the ‘Who Taught You How to Dress?’ coaching program.

Is there anything else I need to know before working with a fashion stylist/personal shopper from Total Image Consultants?

Just one thing. As a personal shopper, I have one shopping rule: You must try on anything I ask you to try on. You don’t have to buy it, but trying it on can be eye opening and expand your options of colors, styles, and fabrics that look good on you!

How long is a personal shopping consultation?

That’s up to you. The average is 2-3 hours, but it can be shorter or longer depending on your needs and budget.

“All of this experience to improve my image, and create a wardrobe for me to look competent (and maintain my natural beauty, fun, resourceful, independent self) has by no means gone to waste. I took almost all of my new wardrobe with me to that conference in D.C. last week, and boy does the world treat you differently when you dress for success.

I also expect to have some publicity when Bob Greene's book 20 Years Younger comes out (I’m a contributing author), so I had a headshot done (see www. - it's the only thing on my website). Of course, the outfit makes the picture (and makes me feel as competent as I look in it!).

I have no idea what to expect when this book comes out, but I am ready for it because I know I can look fabulous in a heartbeat. I would love to work with you some more. Thank you!!”
