Make 2026 the Year to Solve Your Closet Problems

The start of a new year often begins with lofty goals. Take your pick: healthy eating, exercise programs, organized garage, or a dream closet. Or perhaps you’ve given up on these new year goals because you always feel like you fall short.

Take a deep breath…and let’s consider the closet issue for a minute.

If you’re sick of never finding what you’re looking for in your closet, a closet remodel may sound like a great project to take on. Just think—new shelves, pretty containers, better lighting, and extra room to store more stuff. But…

Before you jump into an overwhelming, expensive closet makeover project, let’s identify three problems you might be experiencing.

1. Perhaps your closet is lacking organization.

This could be your core issue if you can imagine one or more of the following scenarios happening to you.

  • A missing scarf shows up when you’re looking for the right bra to wear under a dress. How did it get there when most of your scarves are at the other end of your closet?
  • You found that holiday outfit you were looking for in December, but now it’s January. Ugh!
  • You search for a favorite blouse to wear, but look through the entire length of your closet and still can’t find it. It has to be there, right? You sigh and start over again.
  • You use the shelf above your hanging clothes to store a variety of things—jeans, sweaters, hats, handbags, vacuum attachments (yup!)—but the stacks frequently overflow and tumble to the floor of your closet OR you totally forget those things are up there.

2. Maybe your wardrobe is stuffed because it hasn’t been edited in years.

Could you relate to one or more of the following scenarios?

  • Your jeans are in the wash, but that’s okay because you have more. The first one you grab is too small, the second one is too big, and the third one is out of style. You’re starting to panic. You tell yourself you’re the only one with this problem because everyone else has it totally together. (I promise that’s not true.)
  • You’re invited to a fancy dinner, but when you try on appropriate dresses, you realize they look dated or they don’t feel like you anymore. The first clue was the one-inch layer of dust on the shoulder lines of the dress hangers. Now, what do you do? You could go frantic-shopping if you only you had time or maybe you’ll just skip the dinner.
  • You’ve got a new job (yay!), but when you search your closet for professional wardrobe pieces, you realize your suited looks from yesteryear won’t be appropriate—the pandemic made sure of that!
  • Blazers are in and you’re happy because you have one in your closet already. However, when you put on what used to be your favorite jacket, the shape is off, the cuffs are frayed, and the uneven fringe (that wasn’t there before!) looks like your cat might have had playtime in your closet. (My cat, Zoe, used to do this when I wasn’t looking!)

3. It could be hard to get dressed each day because you’re looking at clothes from all seasons.

Can you relate to any of these problems?

  • You go to your closet to find a white winter weight blouse, but only come up with ¾-sleeve lightweight cotton ones.
  • You need some professional looking trousers to wear to work (rather than always relying on jeans). You seem to be able to find only your corduroys that have seen better days or a pair of blue floral pants you have no idea why you purchased. Twelve minutes have gone by already and you’re running late for work again. You need your cable knit cardigan sweater because it’s cold outside, but when you look in your closet you notice several pretty, but sleeveless, tops. Someone from another room says, “Honey, are you ready? We’re all waiting for you in the car!” You still haven’t found the cardigan.
  • It’s quite the scene on the floor of your closet where your shoes tend to reside. Sandals and open-toed heels are mixed in with your knee-high boots and waterproof booties. To find the right shoe for the day, you’re shuffling around on the floor making an even bigger mess and coming up with only the left shoe from the pair you want to wear.

After reading this if you weren’t overwhelmed before, seeing it all written down has done the trick…so sorry! That wasn’t my intention except to share that I know what it’s like and I recognize the feeling of wanting to fix it or ignore it—both of which feel impossible.

The good news is that these problems can all be solved. I’ve been working with women for decades (and have experienced closet overload in the past myself!) so I’ve pretty much seen it all.

Here’s the good news: you don’t need to spend a fortune redesigning your closet just yet or maybe ever! Instead, it’s a matter of focusing on what styles, colors and fit work for your body, lifestyle and who you are (your inner beauty).

If addressing all of the above on your own makes you feel like climbing into bed and pulling the covers over your head, I promise there’s another way. All of these closet headaches can be fixed by hiring a professional fashion and style consultant like me. I support you fully to have a wardrobe that makes getting dressed easy and pleasant for you. I’d love to help and can.

Don’t take my word for it! Here are a few stories from clients with whom I’ve worked:

  1. “Getting dressed was always a struggle and shopping was painful. I didn’t believe my wardrobe could be anything other than a burden. All I could think of was, what kind of woman am I if I don’t know how to shop or express my beauty? I didn’t realize how bad it was until I started to feel good in my outfits. I have been amazed and forever grateful for all I’ve learned with Ginger.” – Bethany from Florida
  2. This is what Jennie from Hawaii said about her experience refining her wardrobe through the ‘Create Your Personal Style in 6 Weeks’ class: “Ginger is a kind, generous and knowledgeable guide to identifying what will make you look and feel your best. The way she starts from the inside by helping you clarify your inner beauty qualities and working outward to how those can be translated into what you put on is so much better than just talking body shape or style type. I have already cleared out so much, learned so much and saved so much! And the class is fun because Ginger brings her joyfulness to each one. Highly recommended!!”
  3. Dorothy O’Connor can now create a travel capsule wardrobe with ease: “I thought of you as I packed for a short trip. I was able to bring just a carry on for a whole week due to your help with my “capsule wardrobe.” I can’t believe I have had so many choices each day as everything goes with everything. Not only that, but I can dress things up or down depending on accessories. Your help is SO appreciated!”
  4. Peggy Rosen kindly shares my no-judgment approach: “I wanted to tell you that I feel that one of the reasons that you are so successful in business is that you make your clients feel that they are the most important person that you are working with when you are dealing with them. At least, that’s how you make me feel—that I am important above all other things when we worked together. You give your full attention to your clients! You are a great role model.”
